People dressed up in traditional Koli attire, and offered coconuts to the sea – one of the most important customs of the festival

The community also performed other rituals like praying to the sea, decorating their boats and coming together to sing and dance

Narali Purnima, or Nariyal Purnima, is celebrated by the fishing and coastal communities in Maharashtra, and other parts of the Konkan region

It is observed on the full moon day of the Shravan month. Narali Purnima marks the end of monsoon and the beginning of the fishing season. The cultural celebration includes traditional outfits, folk music, etc.

Kolis and other fishing communities pray to Lord Varuna, the God of sky and ocean, by offering coconuts to the sea. This ritual is a way to ask for calm waters and protection from natural calamities

Community celebrations are central to the observance of the festival. Traditional food items that are prepared on this day include Narali Bhaat (Coconut Rice) and Karanji
