Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivali
Sanjay Gandhi National Park is a haven for nature lovers. Not only does it offer avenues for hiking, cycling, etc., but is also a perfect place to just relax and unwind. A preferred picnic spot, Mumbai’s only national park is ideal for a day outing. Inside, vendors sell fruits and light snacks. (Mid-day File Pic)
Priyadarshini Park, Malabar Hill
This is another popular picnic spot in Mumbai which offers a beautiful view of the ocean. One can just sit in designated areas, inhale the fresh air amidst nature, read a book while soaking in the sea view, and enjoy some quiet time here. There is also a refreshment centre at the entrance of the park that serves healthy and light snacks. (Representational Pic/Pexels)
Marine Drive/Bandra Bandstand
While it is not possible to have a traditional picnic at these promenades, you can always spend some quiet time or have a fun day outing with your friends or family at these places and soak in the ocean view. There are also food stalls around Bandstand, in case you get hungry and haven’t brought any homemade snacks. (Mid-day File Pic)
Manori Beach
Located a short ferry ride away from Mumbai, this is a relatively cleaner and lesser-crowded beach near the city. Lay out a blanket, open your picnic basket and enjoy a relaxing time by the sea here. Manori beach is often called ‘mini-Goa’ and there are also several food stalls in the area to explore local delicacies. (Representational Pic/Pexels)
Alibaug/Lonavala/Karjat
If you want to venture away from the city for a picnic, head to nearby tourist destinations like Alibaug and Lonavala. At these places, you can enjoy some quiet time and picnic amidst nature or by the beach away from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai. (Representational Pic/Pixabay)
It is important to respect the ecosystem of these places, and not litter. Check food rules before carrying your own snacks as these may be subject to change.
