Q. What's the best way to tell a girl that you like her? I have had a crush on my classmate in college for months and am thinking of sending her a note. Is that a good idea?
A. I think people appreciate honesty. And courage. Assuming the two of you know each other already, go up to her and tell her how you feel. Give her a chance to react instead of sending her a note and waiting for her to write you one in return.

Q. I have been with the same guy for five years now. He doesn't say he wants to marry me, even though we have discussed it a couple of times. When I ask him a specific question, he says he needs more time to think about it. I don't know why he needs more than five years. Should I end this? I want to get married and can't wait around forever while he makes up his mind. Should I just be with someone else who will take the relationship to the next level?
A. Five years is a lot of time, although, in all fairness, it is not a decision everyone can take easily. For some men, five minutes is enough to figure out that marriage is the way forward; for others, it's obviously not that simple. Your boyfriend obviously has his reasons. If you want to be in a relationship simply because you want to marry, it follows that your boyfriend isn't as important to your life in the larger scheme of things. If that is true, and he refuses to commit within a time frame you think is acceptable, maybe you should move on.

Q. My girlfriend hums while we have sex. It's very annoying. I keep telling her not to but she stops for a while only to begin again. Is there something I can do to stop her from doing this?
A. Maybe she sings because it distracts her from what you're doing. Or how you're doing it.
