'My husband is a good for nothing...'

Dear Diana

Dear Diana,
My husband is quite useless. He keeps changing jobs every few months or gets the boot due to his attitude. He is lazy and extremely irresponsible. In the first few years of marriage he was okay, but now he has become a nuisance value for me. He finds fault in everything. Some of his pals told him to get into the readymade clothes business. He tried his hand at it, but lost heavily. He does not contribute to the household income at all. He has a shop on rent, so we live off that income - we can just about survive on it. I give tuitions to school kids so that amount also helps a great deal. I did try to change his attitude towards life and that's how he could find his feet initially after marriage. But now he has got back to his earlier self. He is impossible as he always has some excuse or the other lined up. I feel cheated and want to move on.

Dear Madhureeta,
This man is impossible. He finds fault in everything - with this attitude in life he will get no where. Even if you try to change him again, he will go back to his earlier ways. He has proved that he is a good for nothing and wants to stay that way. It is also clear that he just does not care for you - and you have suffered enough for all these years. Give him a last warning and some time. If he refuses to change, there are two options for you - either you turn a blind eye and live your life. He will do what he wants as he knows the rent money is coming in. The second option is to start a new life. You will be happier and better without him, but do you want to end the relationship? Decide what you want to do with your life and accordingly take a decision.
