Catch glimpses of the upcoming Translucent Video Festival, this Saturday, at What About Art?, a new art space focussed at showcasing video art in the city. The show in Mumbai will screen a selection of video works from nine Indian video artistes over a period of eight days, starting today.
Visitors can watch works by video artistes like Ashish Avikunthak, Nikhil Chopra and Munir Kabani, Jehangir Jani, Shambhavi Kaul, Kartik Sood, Jaret Vadera, Aaditi Joshi, Sahej Rahal and Niyati Upadhya. Some of the noted works that will be screened at the festival are: Notes on Remembering Elsewhere by Niyati Upadhya, Man Eats Rock by Nikhil Chopra and Munir Kaban, Make Ups by Jehangir Jani and Vakratunda Swaha by Ashish Avikunthak.
Organised by Chameleon Art Projects and What About Art?, the idea behind the show is to build a platform for video art in India, encourage the practice and build a deeper understanding for the art form, especially for emerging artistes of the country. The Mumbai edition will be a prelude to the Translucent Video Festival, which will screen nearly 45 videos / films over two months.
The Goa edition kicks off on December 15 in conjunction with another show, Rebirth of Detail, curated by Kanchi Mehta, at Sunaparanta Goa Center for Arts in Panaji, Goa that will be on till February, 2014.
