Popular as one of the most lively spaces for music in the city, blueFROG has expanded its boundaries by introducing themed pop-up shops as well as an art week in the forthcoming weeks

Pop-up stores seem to have become a must-have event at several eateries in the city and blueFROG too has joined the wagon.

While the place is known for hosting several Indian and international musicians, blueFROG hosted its first pop up store last month. The goodies on offer included chunky neckpieces, hand-woven block print saris and casual apparel and were just like the music the joint offers - cutting edge.

"The city is starving for space and there are several good designers who don't want to get into the whole mall bracket and don't showcase their stuff at physical places. We thought blueFROG could be a great venue to showcase such designers who haven't been seen before at other festive bazaars.

Two years back, we showcased the works of an artist here, and several people who would have otherwise skipped visiting the gallery, came for the show and we had to extend it for an entire month," says Srila Chatterjee, one of the founders of blueFROG and the curator of the pop up shops.

The forthcoming exhibition will have only furniture designers participating, but all who haven't been seen in the city shops before. One can get classic teakwood furniture with a twist by Twistedsister, cushions for every mood by Ranji, furniture pieces that mix art and functionality by Kish Mish, India Circus by artist Krsna Mehta. Also on offer will be lamps and chandeliers created from unlikely materials by Shahrukh Irani. A special day-menu has been created for the event.

Next on cards will be a two-day Christmas special exhibition to help pick home décor and gifts for Christmas. "We also plan to have an art week in collaboration with Sakshi Art Gallery, where we will focus on affordable art with prices as low as Rs 1,000," informs Chatterjee.
