Godrej is hosting an exhibition of handmade Batik originals. The aim is to preserve the traditional and ancient craft of wax painting or Batik. Smita Godrej Crishna will present an exhibition-cum-sale of Handmade Batik Originals.

Batik art on tableware

The exhibition will showcase a limited collection of table linen, scarves, kurtis, tees and sarees made by the wives of the Godrej employees, under Crishna's guidance, and pottery made by students of Godrej Udayachal School.

"Batik was started in our Welfare Centre some years ago to give women a sense of aesthetics, an appreciation of art, confidence in themselves, and monetary returns that they can call their own," says Crishna. She adds that this dying art needs to be revived in its original form, and not as a loud block-print that one normally sees. "Ours is handmade and wax-painted on both sides, twice, thrice, or four times, depending on the number of colours required," adds Crishna.
