Attend an annual festival dedicated to raising awareness about the elegant, pink-hued birds

If you haven't had the opportunity to see the beautiful flamingos that flock to the city for a few months every year, there's still some hope.

The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) is hosting its annual Flamingo Festival at Sewri jetty on Saturday. The event is open to kids and adults alike, and will include several activities.

"We've been hosting this festival for nearly a decade now. As usual, we will have bird experts who will help visitors spot not only flamingos, but also other water birds that call the creek their home.

They will also explain what the different birds' habitats and feeding habits are like," says Bilwada Kale of BNHS.

Additionally, there will be an illustrative exhibition on flamingos, as well as quizzes and other activities for kids. Kale adds, "For the first time, we're also holding book reading sessions. These readings will be conducted by Deepak Dalal, author of the book Feather Tales: A Flamingo In My Garden."

There will be a stall selling refreshments, and a free bus service has been put in place to ferry visitors from the east side of Sewri railway station to the venue.
