In 2011, surveys revealed that Mumbai is home to 2.1 million HIV/AIDS cases. To raise awareness about this condition, Medscape India will hold a rally and campaign against AIDS on World AIDS Day, i.e. today. The campaign titled HIV Go Away From Globe will witness a large number of youth and adults, including many from the medical fraternity come together at Juhu Beach to raise awareness about the issue.

The awareness rally will begin from Mahatma Gandhi statue at Juhu beach crossing Hotel Tulip International, Lions club of India Garden till Vidhya Nidhi High School, Juhu. "There is a need to provide health care including ART (Antiretroviral Therapy) to women living with AIDS.

Social and economic interventions focusing on women are required to mitigate the impact of AIDS in rural areas too," says Dr Sunita Dube, Founder and Director, Medscape India adding, "More than 1,000 children are newly infected with HIV every day across the world, and among these more than half may die as a result of AIDS because of a lack of access to HIV treatment."
