Unearth the female voice in Urdu literature

If you have admired the stories by Ismat Chugtai, here's an opportunity to get acquainted with other Urdu women authors.


Through their beautiful prose and poetry, these authors, including Umrao Jaan, Qurrat-ul-Ain Haider and Rashid Jahan, have shed light on the plight of women trapped in society.

A discussion has been organised by Mehfil, a club that is attempting to familiarise people to the magical language of Urdu and its culture. At the upcoming meet, the club will peruse through Urdu novels, short stories and poems written about women by women authors.

The club meets once a month at Prithvi Theatre to discuss topics related to the language of Urdu, be it Mughal history or Gulzar's lyrics of a popular song. They host young singers, poets and lyricists as well who have managed to include Urdu language in their contemporary creations.
