Tech firm Yahoo has confirmed they they plan to discontinue their classic instant messenger on August 5 this year


Tech firm Yahoo has confirmed they they plan to discontinue their classic instant messenger on August 5 this year.

Yahoo's official blogpost states that, "On August 5, 2016, legacy versions of Yahoo Messenger will be discontinued. If you haven't upgraded Yahoo Messenger recently, you're probably using a legacy version. To continue using Yahoo Messenger, please upgrade to the newest version."

Yahoo's blogpost has provided download links to the new version of the Messenger client for mobile and PC platforms.

The new and improved Yahoo Messenger has the following features:
>> Enhanced photo-sharing where users can share multiple high-resolution images at once and swipe to view them in a photo carousel.
>> An unsend option that enables users to remove something they didn't want to send during a conversation.
>> Like option for photos or messages sent
>> Animated GIFs from Tumblr available on Android, iOS and web.
>> Availability in offline and low connectivity mode

Yahoo users will still be able to sign in to the new Messenger through their existing IDs.
