Kerala's temple town of Guruvayur is likely to get a multi-speciality veterinary hospital for the care and treatment of elephants and cattle under the Devaswom Board, which manages the famed Sree Krishna Temple.

A high-level expert team from Vantara visited Guruvayur to assess the feasibility of setting up a state-of-the-art animal hospital with modern facilities, the Devaswom said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Vantara is a global-level animal rescue, care and rehabilitation initiative established by Reliance Foundation, located in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat

The team inspected the Punnathur Kotta, the famed elephant camp of the Guruvayur temple, and evaluated existing infrastructure as well as the scope for establishing a super-speciality veterinary facility.

The visit follows the recent trip of Anant Ambani to Guruvayur and discussions held with Devaswom authorities, which paved the way for further technical consultations.

According to the Devaswom, the expert team indicated that steps to set up a multi-speciality veterinary hospital for elephants could be initiated after detailed planning and technical deliberations, as part of the comprehensive development of Punnathur Kotta.

The team also invited an official delegation from the Devaswom to visit the Vantara facility in Jamnagar for further study and coordination.

During the visit, the experts examined the temple elephant "Nandan" and offered clinical recommendations, including advanced treatment protocols and management practices.

The Vantara team appreciated the existing standards of healthcare and management of elephants at Punnathur Kotta, as said in the Devaswom's Facebook post.
