An ailing female leopard that entered a hutment of Sisaiya village in Dhaurahra kotwali area here died during treatment after being rescued

An ailing female leopard that entered a hutment of Sisaiya village in Dhaurahra kotwali area here died during treatment after being rescued, officials said.

The area falls under the Dhaurahra range of the Dudhwa buffer zone, which is reported to have a presence of leopards.

Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR) Field director H Rajamohan told PTI that following information of a leopard on Sunday, forest officials rushed to the spot and rescued the big cat.

"During monitoring, it came to light that the leopard was suffering from seizures," he said.

He added that "taking all precautions, the leopard was rescued and brought to Dhaurahra range headquarters for treatment early on Monday morning." Dudhwa buffer zone deputy director Kirti Chaudhary said, adding that despite efforts, the leopard could not be saved and died during treatment.

She said that the leopard was found to be a female of about three years.

Chaudhary too confirmed that the leopard was found to be suffering from seizures. However, she added that the exact cause of her death would be clear after the postmortem.
