Women have no confidence in their men shopping in supermarkets

Men are now rarely asked to do the supermarket shopping, as they tend to overspend by buying impulsively

One in 10 men is no longer trusted with trolley duties at all, despite being previously in charge of the weekly family shop, a new research revealed.

And more than one in six are now only allowed to hit the aisles accompanied by their wives or girlfriends.

More than two-thirds of women take complete control of the household food budget and all the supermarket trips.

This is because men ignore the shopping list and push up spending by impulse buying.

Nearly half of shoppers said in the current economic climate they go to supermarkets with a tight pre-written list, the study showed.

Even so more than a third failed to stick to it.

The increased squeeze on family finances had also led to a third of shoppers totting up their bills as they fill their trollies.

And nearly one in six goes to the stores late to pick up more discounts.

"Shoppers are finding it tough and those on low incomes who do set a budget struggle to stick to it," a major newspaper quoted one researcher as saying.
