Fashion designer Narendra Kumar says he would not call himself a "veteran" as he believes the word has a slight negative connotation attached to it.

The couturier quipped that he instead wants to be called "one of the cooler" designers. "'Veteran' is not a good word. Maybe I can be called one of the cooler designers, who has always told stories on the ramp," Kumar told PTI in an interview.

The designer will unveil his collection 'The Fake Show' at the last day of the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018. Kumar said through his clothing line - spread across the spectrum of largely monochrome - he wants to accentuate the blurred line between black-and-white.

"Nothing is real. The collection showcases the times that we live in. There was a time when we were absolutely clear that everything was in terms of black and white. Today, especially with social media and journalism, we don't know what's the truth," he said.

The designer said the collection is a stark departure from what his label has been doing for over two decades but there will be "a little bit of colour" in the line. Kumar said a designer's job is to show what is happening around through their work. The aim is to bring a culture of sophistication and elegance to couture.

The collection is wearable and inspired by the hip-hop era of the 1970s. "That was the time when people stood up and protested against what was happening around. It speaks of the revolution," he added.

Actor Rahul Khanna is going to walk the ramp for Kumar as showstopper. The designer said a lot of modern Bollywood depends on looks, similar to the era gone-by where the music used to set the tone of the films.

"In old days, the music of the film used to tell us what the characters are thinking, today it's the look that tells us. "Indian fashion and style have contributed a lot to what modern Bollywood stands as of today," he said.

The LFW closes on Sunday.
