This was the breaking point for a complete outsider to the world of fashion. Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada (2006), portrayed by Anne Hathaway, marked her shift from outsider to insider.
"A military-inspired black blazer with contrast trim and crest detail brings structure, layered over a shimmering mini dress for movement," highlights luxury stylist Divya Sacheti, adding that the over-the-knee leather boots sharpen the silhouette with confidence. Gold chains add softness, while a textured green handbag adds a slight contrast. One can safely say that this was the exact scene where her outfit got a snarky green signal from Priestly.

"A custom Armani Privé dove-grey utility jumpsuit, defined by a belted waist and sharp lapels, is layered under a pearl-encrusted coat that gives the outfit some texture. The ivory-framed Prada sunglasses and a sleek clutch, complete a look that communicates a modern, composed presence," adds Sacheti.
Black in fashion is often associated with elegance, sophistication, power, and authority, and on Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada (2006), portrayed by Emily Blunt, the outfit operates as literal armour.
"A distressed, sculptural bolero with exaggerated shoulders signals competitiveness, keeping in mind the competitive fashion industry, layered over a sheer black top that adds sensuality. A wide belt with chain detailing tightens the silhouette, mirroring her need for control within Miranda Priestly's orbit. The deliberately âratty' necklace makes it edgy, while a lime green watch disrupts the monochrome palette," explains Sacheti.
On the high priestess of fashion, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, this look is a masterclass in controlled minimalism.
"A crisp ivory shirt and fluid high-waisted cream trousers are cinched with a structured beige belt, layered under a classic camel trench. Oversized gradient sunglasses and gold hoops add presence, while a statement watch signals precision. A quilted top-handle bag reeks of old money, paired with nude pointed pumps," emphasises Sacheti. In addition to that, her silver coiffed hair only completes the aesthetic.
Life has come full circle, when Sachs in the trailer went from a âlumpy blue sweater' (above, left)to someone who understands fashion," notes Sacheti. Anne Hathaway delivers a refined evolution of Andy Sachs in the The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer.
"A vintage Jean Paul Gaultier pinstripe waistcoat with matching tailored trousers anchors the look in sharp, executive minimalism with a 90s edge. The cinched silhouette and pointed-toe boots help elongate the frame," says Sacheti. A Jemma Wynne diamond toggle pendant and pearls make the jewellery delicate enough to complete the look.
