When asked why she chose Adalaj ni Vav, Founder and artist Birwa Qureshi said, "Adalaj ni vav and Water Festival are symbiotic. How could one miss the mystique, romance, and ‘peopleness' of the Vav? A step-well is a utility structure. I imagined women fetching water and heard their anklets ringing and singing. That brought music as a tool in presenting the monument."

The idea behind hosting the fusion concert at the step-well is rooted in the desire to reintroduce monuments to the younger generation and to those who have lost touch by way of a rich blend of quality thematic music and displaying the monument's innate craftsmanship, beauty, and splendour.

"Reintroducing the monument meant giving it a new identity, a new presence, even a new form. I choose two mediums. First, the lighting, which accentuated the form and intricate details, giving the monument an other-worldly character without touching the original. It multiplied its beauty and grace multifold. Second, the music, both classical and folk, added a new dimension to the monument. It gave life and language to a static structure. It integrated people with the building," shares Mrs. Qureshi.

Expect to be mesmerised by one of the finest monuments of Gujarat and a number of notable performers. Ustad Fazal Qureshi, Rakesh Chaurasia, Kutle Khan, Dilshad Khan, and Navin Sharma will enchant the audience with their performances while the elegantly lit step-well acts as the perfect background.
