A murder has been committed. Now, channel your inner ACP Pradyuman because this case won't solve itself. Throw in the dramatic twists of crime dramas such as Crime Patrol and CID, and you have a room full of people with motives, secrets, and questionable alibis. At Unstrangr Social Mystery Club, you're not watching the investigation unfold from your sofa. You're a part of it.
The premise is unconventional. Guests receive characters to inhabit and clues to decipher. Each gathering presents an original case, complete with tangled motives, concealed truths and unexpected revelations. Murder is one recurring theme, but heists, deception and missing artefacts also feature in the club's fictional universe.
For the co-founder of Unstrangr, Pooja Melwani, the appeal extends beyond the game. "This event gives people an opportunity to interact and socialise beyond the usual questions about who they are or what they do. Here, everyone is on an equal footing, focused on solving the mystery and identifying the culprit," she says.
Shraddha Majalkar, co-founder, takes charge of the storytelling. Every case is well researched, with fresh characters and motives devised for each session. "We never repeat a mystery, so every event gives participants a fresh case to solve. I enjoy writing these stories, and watching people piece together the clues and crack the case makes the experience even more rewarding," she explains.
