Lenny Pearce brings techno nursery rhymes, mascots and confetti to Mumbai with his Toddler Rave

Imagine the cheers; the stomping feet; the kaleidoscopic colours; and the wild chaos of goo goos, gaa-gaas, and giggles. While musicians always target a young audience, Lenny Pearce's dance parties are led by toddlers in onesies. As part of his global tour, he opens the first kids' concert in Mumbai today.

While he started with breakdancing, it was a few years ago that Pearce released his album, Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes, a techno upgrade of the popular nursery rhyme. "I wanted to create a real concert experience that families could enjoy together. I remix songs that kids already know and love, and then combine them with big visuals, characters, confetti, and balloons," he shares. Open to children below the age of 16, and guardians accompanying them, the concert aims to please.

So, what exactly goes on in a toddler concert? For one, the fun remains the same. "It has all the energy of a live music event, but it's designed specifically for young children. I keep the sound at safe levels, perform during the day, and create an environment where families can dance together," the composer shares.

Thus, the classics like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star or The Wheels On The Bus are layered with synth, and drum kicks. The composer shares, "Kids naturally connect with rhythm and familiar songs, while parents love hearing those classics reimagined. It creates a shared experience that both generations genuinely enjoy."

Anyone who has ever baby-sat a toddler knows that is easier said than done. They can be fickle audiences. The use of mascots like Kuma, Bubbles, and Mr Glow keeps them on board. "I pay close attention to sound levels, lighting and pacing. Young children have shorter attention spans, so, I keep the show interactive with plenty of movement and audience participation," he reveals.

Mascots, great music, lyrics we can sing along to, and milk and cookies to dig into. That's a party we'd like to sign up for.
