Game on!

It was quite the ‘racket' in Bandra this weekend as Varun Dhawan hit the padel courts - in a series of sets that were equal parts cardio and covert promotion. Serving looks and lobs behind those opaque frames, the actor proves he's always game for a bit of a ‘swing' shift

We found love (and a lot of dust)

Monday has arrived, and while the ringing in my ears has finally subsided, I'm still coughing up enough pulverised mortar to start a real estate empire. The call of Calvin Harris on Saturday led a troop of teens and I all the way to Sewri, but while we trekked there for one of the world's biggest DJs, we left needing a deep-exfoliation treatment and a lung detox.

Calvin Harris

Thankfully, the sub-par venue didn't dent the performance. Harris was a solid 10, keeping an ocean of Gen Z fans jumping all night. Suffice to say ‘we found love' in a hopeless place (literally, it felt like a construction site), because the vibe was undeniable and his set delivered.

Meanwhile, construction heiress Mishka Kamboj navigated the grit with a security detail tight enough to repel a riot, while Anju Chulani proved that true society doyennes don't sweat, even with the mercury hitting a high note. Siddharth Kannan made it a point to stop at the merch table after the show - a bit too late to buy a t-shirt to use as a makeshift respirator, but just in time to snag a souvenir. We came for ‘Summer,' and left looking like the lead contractor on a mid-rise project, but Calvin still gave us what we came for. Feels.

Friends with strategic benefits

A silver-screen siren, celebrated as much for her cinematic pedigree as her impeccable sartorial choices, has gossip mills spinning currently with stories of her latest ‘plus one.' The man in question? A rising political powerhouse with a polished public image and a penchant for the same society circles she frequents.

While the tabloids are breathless over their apparently undeniable chemistry, the actress is sticking to the classic ‘just good friends' script during press junkets. For once though, the cliche isn't a cover for a secret tryst - it's the literal truth. Chatter in a certain group suggests the gentleman's private leanings are strictly toward his own kind. He isn't exactly ‘out and proud' on the campaign trail, but those in the inner sanctum claim to know the score.

This is one of those rare times when the rumours would suit both better if they weren't put to rest. She would be the perfect sophisticated beard for a man who seemingly needs a traditional silhouette to climb the political ladder. He gets the optics, and she gets a high-profile companion who's never going to break her heart. If you know, you know.

Legacy in London

While EDM was the order of the day in Mumbai on April 18, the soulful strings of the sarod were resonating through London. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, alongside his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, returned to Wigmore Hall as part of their ongoing residency at this historic venue - also marking its milestone 125th-anniversary celebrations.

The Bangash family in London

The evening transcended borders as the trio collaborated with Sinfonia Verdi and the fiery flamenco guitarist Juan Carmona - blending our intricate ragas with the rhythmic pulse of Andalusia, and creating a vibrant cross-cultural dialogue that left the audience spellbound.

The legacy, however, didn't stop with the masters. In a poignant tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Ayaan's twin sons - Zohaan and Abeer Ali Bangash - stepped into the spotlight at the iconic Nehru Centre earlier that week. Their debut solo recital abroad served as a powerful testament to the enduring Bangash lineage and made an emphatic statement: between the grandeur of Wigmore and the intimacy of South Audley Street's Nehru Centre, the future of Indian classical music looks as brilliant as its storied past.

Podcast Pondering

In a digital landscape where you can't throw a stone without hitting a podcast microphone, the signal-to-noise ratio is, frankly, exhausting. Most ‘entrepreneurial' pods are just echo chambers for tech-bros, but Mukul Deora's The Secret Sauce actually brings some seasoning. While Sania Mirza is out there serving aces and insights on Serving It Up With Sania, Deora is carving out a niche for the intellectually curious who prefer substance over clickbait.

Mukul Deora with Dr Udwadia

The real masterclass, however, dropped when Deora sat down with Dr Farokh E Udwadia last week. A Padma Bhushan recipient and a literal institution in white scrubs, Udwadia doesn't just practise medicine, he deconstructs the human condition.

The takeaway? We're all obsessed with the chronology of our lives while ignoring the chemistry. Deora and the good doctor pivoted the conversation from the frantic ‘how long' to the essential ‘how well.' In a world addicted to longevity hacks, Udwadia reminds us that a long life is just a quantity - a high-quality life is the actual flex. Stop counting the years and start making them count.
