A single mother in Indore has been accussed of abusing her adopted 4-year-old daughter on a regular basis. The accusation comes after the child was treated for multiple injuries on her body.

4-year-old Anmol was taken to Indore's Choithram hospital by her adoptive mother, Sushila in a semi-conscious state. Doctors at the hospital noticed signs of chronic abuse on the child's face, neck, arms and legs and called in child welfare activists. Anmol is being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU).

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, emini Varma, a member of the Bal Kalyan Samiti is quoted as having commented on Anmol's physical abuse and stated, "We have decided that we will not hand over the child back to Sushila and we will keep her in the state's custody. Senior police officials have seen Anmol's condition and case will be registered once they take her statement."

Activists also believe that the way in which the adoption was carried out was not as per standard procedures. Anmol is reportedly Sushila's maid's daughter, whom she adopted.

Verma is reported to have added, "he way the adoption took place is highly irregular and we have recommended that Shushila be charged under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act for the physical abuse." Meanwhile, Sushila claimed that the child suffered the injuries after falling down a flight of stairs.
