New Delhi: A 38-year-old man was today arrested for making a hoax call about a bomb kept at Azadpur market in north west Delhi, police said.

The accused identified as Ram Kishore made the hoax call yesterday saying that a bomb was planted at Azadpur Fruit Mandi.

The area was thoroughly searched by bomb disposal squad and the Special Cell of Delhi Police but nothing was found. A team was formed to trace the hoax caller and after a sustained enquiry from the locals in and around Mandi, the accused was nabbed today, said Vijay Singh, DCP(north west).

During investigation it was found that Ram Kishore is a labourer and had came to Azadpur Mandi from Kanpur to transport vegetables. He had made a hoax call under the influence of alcohol, said Singh.

He has been arrested under IPC sections 107 and 151 for disturbing the peace of general public. Legal action has also been initiated under IPC section 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) against the accused, Singh added.

Keeping in view the forthcoming New Year and Republic Day celebrations, police is taking strict action as a deterrent to such hoax callers, they said.
