The NCC instructor, who injured a 13-year-old student in a freak firing accident on Friday, was arrested on Tuesday evening and has been remanded in police custody yesterday.

Parag Ingale was shot in the forehead with a 0.22 calibre bullet by Amodh Ghanekar (27) during a firing demonstration at the NCC headquarters on Senapati Road.

Ghanekar was arrested under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC by the Deccan Gymkhana police and remanded to one-day custody by a Shivajinagar court yesterday.

The police sought Ghanekar's custody to take him to the firing range and reconstruct the events that transpired on Friday. Meanwhile, doctors at Command Hospital, where Ingale is undergoing treatment, said he is still in a critical condition.u00a0
