Sharpshooter Farid Tanasha, an aide of underworld don Chhota Rajan, was shot dead at his residence in suburban Tilak Nagar on June 2, 2010. A MOCOCA court convicted 11 persons for the daylight killing of gangster Farid Tanasha and sentenced six to life imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the six convicts - Jafar Khan, Mohammad Sakib Khan, Raviprakash Singh, Pankaj Singh, Randhir Singh and Mohd Rafiq Shaikh executed the murder plan at the behest of gangster Bharat Nepali. The other five - Ravindra Varerkar, Vishwanath Sethy, Dattatraya Bhakre, Rajendra Chavan and Dinesh Bhandari got sentenced to ten years in jail

In February 2017, Reshma, the wife of murdered gangster Farid Tanasha, deposed before a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court. She identified the two suspects as the shooters who had entered the house and shot dead Farid Tanasha in 2010. Reshma told the court that when she married Tanasha in 2002, he had told her that there was a threat to his life in Mumbai and they moved to their ground floor Tilak Nagar home in 2009 with heavy security in place.

While recalling the chain of events, Reshma walked up to the dock, where Khan and Singh were standing, and identified them as the shooters. After her statement was recorded, Special Public Prosecutor Raja Thakare asked for police protection for Reshma. Special Judge V V Patil granted permission for this. Reshma was the 53rd witness whose statement was recorded in court

The Shivaji Nagar police registered a case of assault. The incident occurred when the witness, who owns a gas agency, was on his way to work, riding in a tempo
