"When he returned from work, he used to bring my favourite cake. He was also popular with the children in our building, as he distributed chocolates to them," recalled Vaishali.

She added, "Had my father survived, he would have completed 31 years of service this year."

The Omble house is testament to the bravery of cop, credited with capturing Ajmal Qasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the 26/11 attack.

The house is crammed with medals and bravery certificates posthumously awarded to Omble. As the city gets ready for the 26/11 anniversary, the date only reopens old wounds for the family.

"My mother has not recovered from the trauma yet. She will never express how she feels about the loss," said Vaishali.

'Make him proud'

Omble's youngest daughter Bharti recently joined the Worli traffic department. "Baba never forced us to join police force. I joined because I wanted to.

It will make him proud," said Bharti. All through their grief, the family wants only two things there is no repeat of 26/11 and the Qasab trial be finished and justice be served.

"I have been keeping tabs on the trial. Only when Qasab is hanged, will my mother truly be at peace."
