It was siesta on Saturday and all was quiet at the Marquis bungalow in Bandra. Suddenly the silence on the leafy street, off Hill Road, was broken by barking and the sound of a speeding motorbike.
"The barking came from my garden and I rushed outside and saw a brown and white Cocker Spaniel and a white Pomeranian cowering behind the flower pots, yipping away. I glanced outside and spotted a man on a bike, speeding away. I couldn't get his number, but I know he had flung the animals into my garden," said Christopher Marquis, who has been breeding dogs for 40 years.u00a0
When Christopher and his wife Colette inspected the dogs, they discovered the reason why they had been abandoned. "The spaniel was infested with maggots and consequently had a hole in its hip. Naturally, it's malodorous. The Pom seems unwell and I think it is malnourished. Instead of throwing them over the wall, they should have asked us for help. We would have certainly helped," said Christopher.
Christopher added that since both the dogs seemed familiar with each other, it seemed obvious that they belonged to the same family. "I have lodged a complaint at the Bandra police station. Meanwhile, we are getting the dogs treated by a vet," said Colette, who owns four dogs.
Senior Inspector Prakash George of Bandra police station confirmed that an inquiry had been initiated.
