The duo allegedly made fun of the 49-year-old regularly; when they picked on him again, he barged into their rooms in the wee hours of Tuesday in a fit of rage, and killed them in their sleep

A frustrated Indian Air Force security guard went berserk and shot dead two of his sleeping colleagues, who, he alleges, had been constantly on his back and harassing him.

Rohitas Yadav says the two victims H R Singh and Somdutt regularly put in false complaints against him to his superiors, and also insulted and harassed him

The firing occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday, and the accused fled from the spot. He was eventually arrested on the Western Express Highway in Goregaon and handed over to the Nirmal Nagar police.

The incident took place at the Air Force station at Patel Nagar in Santacruz (East) and the two dead were identified as H R Singh (52) and Somdutt (53), who died on the spot.

He then opens fire in the adjacent room, injuring C P Thapa and Bheem Singh. A third guard, Virendra Singh, manages to stay safe by hiding behind the door

The accused, Rohitas Harisingh Yadav (49), has been working for the last few years in the defence security corps unit of the Air Force. The unit comprises ex-Army men who are posted at various military stations as security guards.

The accused then escapes the campus and grabs a rickshaw towards Borivli. Having run out of cash, he alights on the Western Express Highway at Goregaon

Butt of all jokes
According to the police, Yadav had been depressed and frustrated with his colleagues and seniors. An officer from the Nirmal Nagar police station said, "Yadav was allegedly harassed by his two colleagues H R Singh and Somdutt on a regular basis.

After Yadav fires seven rounds, Singh grabs him by his collar, during which Yadav's hand lets go of the rifle

They would pick on him always, and when in a large group, would make fun of him." They would also force him to go on night duty, even when he was scheduled for a day stint.

An alert beat marshal from Vanrai police station notices him moving around suspiciously and takes him into custody. Yadav reveals the whole chain of events. He is later handed over to the Nirmal Nagar police station

According to the officer, the duo would also register false complaints about Yadav to his superiors, who would then reprimand him. However, when Yadav complained about the two to the superiors, he says no action was taken. All this angered and frustrated him extremely. All of them stay at the Sion mess.

Boiling point
On Monday night, during duty hours the duo was watching TV. When he asked them to get back to work, they allegedly abused him and asked him to shut up. Having reached the end of his patience, the UP-based Yadav decided to take revenge for all the insults and suffering.

At around 2 am on Tuesday, he grabbed his SLR rifle, went into the rooms of his rivals and opened fire. The two men, who were sleeping, died on the spot. Yadav then went to the adjoining room and opened fire there as well.

The two occupants - C B Thapa (46) and Bheemsingh (51) had already been alerted by the shots. However, Thapa was shot in his upper body and Bheemsingh was shot in his leg. Both are recuperating at INHS Asvini, the naval hospital at Colaba.

The third occupant, Virendra Singh, managed to hide behind the door and escaped unhurt. After the angry man fired seven rounds, Singh grabbed him by his collar and in the scuffle, the rifle slipped from the accused's hands.

Having been unarmed, Yadav then fled the campus. Since he was in uniform, nobody stopped him. He hailed an auto rickshaw and took it towards Borivli. However, he ran out of cash and had to stop in Goregaon on the Western Express Highway.

An alert beat marshal from Vanrai police station spotted him loitering in the area and took him into custody. Yadav then revealed everything to the police. The two victims were both from Haryana. The Air Force is conducting an internal inquiry in the matter.
