In a move to swoop down on the employment of minors as domestic help, Labour Minister Nawab Malik yesterday said the ministry had filed cases against offenders that included director Shekhar Kapur's ex-wife and singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and television actress Laxmi.
The move comes after a small time TV actress Urvashi Dhanorkar was booked for allegedly abusing her 10-year-old maid who had been working at her home for four months. The girl is currently staying at a remand home at Mankhurd.

Legal Limit: Suchitra Krishnamoorthi claims her domestic helps are over 16 years |
However, Krishnamoorthi, a Lokhandwala resident, insisted that both her maids are above the legal limit of 16 years and that she had not been intimated about her 'offence'.
Malik said, "How can she claim that? A case was filed against her around two months back. Though I don't have the details right now, a child under the age of 14 was found working in her house.
We had found that several other celebrities had children working in their houses. We will declare the details of the case tomorrow."
ImprisonmentHe added, "People who are found to be employing underage children can face imprisonment of up to two years.
