After a year-long hunt for the curriculum of an optional subject, student finally gets it a week before the exam

A 50-year-old undergraduate student of Mumbai University, who has been running from pillar to post for the past one year to procure the syllabus of one of her optional papers, has finally managed to get the coveted curriculum in the nick of time. Kashmira Fitter, a third-year English literature student of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), received the syllabus of her last paper on Sunday, just 10 days before the scheduled date of the test. Kashmira and her son have been making rounds of the office of Mumbai University vice-chancellor and the education department at Mantralaya for procuring the syllabus of woman's writing and feminist criticism, which is scheduled on April 29.

MiD DAY had reported (on April 12) on how Fitter is still making the rounds of Mumbai University's Kalina Campus, having failed to obtain the syllabus for her last paper. Fitter has appeared for four papers so far. While the university officials claimed that the syllabus was available at the Fort campus, Fitter, who went there the next day, returned empty handed. Fitter said, "When I could not procure the syllabus from the university, I went to the Mantralaya and met Sambhaji Chauhan, the PA to Higher Education Minister Rajesh Tope.

He promised to help me get the syllabus. Now, I am being informed that the head of the department of English literature is gathering the notes for us. One of the officials also suggested some reference books on woman's writing and feminist criticism."u00a0 Santosh Rathod, head of the department of English literature at IDOL, said, "The students came to us and we have provided them the syllabus as well as helped them with some information on the subject from the Internet."
