5 youngsters from Badlapur were sentenced to sweep the streets of the area they lived in for two hours every Sunday during the entire month of November. According to a report by The Times of India, the complainant, a 17-year-old college student knew the 21-year-old main accused and the others, since they lived in the same neighbourhood. The girl and main accused even attended the same coaching classes.

Trouble began, when he objected to her befriending another boy, and on the day of the apparent assault called her to meet him. Once she arrived at the meeting point, the boy along with 4 others allegedly "outraged her modesty" and even assault a person, who was accompanying her.

After the girl registered a case with the Badlapur (East) police, the youths moved the HC to quash it, pleading with their lawyer that it would ruin their future.

The court's sentencing came after the families of the girl and the accused reached an amicable settlement.
