Yet another official has been suspended in the murder case of Byculla jail inmate Manjula Shetye. In addition to this, DIG (prisons) Swati Sathe, who is accused of protecting the accused female jailers, will have to face an inquiry.

Sathe was asked to step down as head of the internal inquiry panel after her WhatsApp conversation with other jail officials, seeking leniency and help for the accused, was made public. She had asked her colleagues to unite to save "our sisters".

According to an announcement made by Minister of State (Home) Ranjit Patil, acting jail superintendent Tanaji Gharbudve would be asked to stay off-duty until the internal and police inquiries get over.
