According to the police, the constable was identified as Madhukar Rane (25), who works with the Local Arms unit of the Mumbai police. Rane and the girl reside in the same police colony in Dadar (W).

"On December 23, Rane allegedly touched the girl's private parts on the staircase of her building in the police colony, after which the girl approached us and we registered an FIR under Section 354 of IPC," said a police officer from Dadar police station.
The police have not yet arrested Rane and are verifying the girl's claim.u00a0
