Fire breaks out inside flat at 13-storey building in Andheri

A sudden blaze occured on the 6th floor of 13-storey building in Andheri East on Sunday morning. Fire brigade officials suspect a short circuit to be the cause. No casualties reported

A sudden blaze occured on the 6th floor of the 13-storeyed Guru Niwas building in Andheri East around 9.30 am.

It originated in a closed flat and was confined to it.

Fire officials suspect a short circuit to be the cause of the fire but did not give confirmation.

Four fire engines were sent to the spot and fire was doused within minutes. No casualties reported.

This is not the first case of fire to be reported from the suburb.

Earlier this month, a fire broke out at Shree Gaurishankar Kedia English School in JB Nagar area of Andheri (West). Fire brigade officials said that the fire has broken out on the terrace of the four-storied school near Chakala metro station. (Read more)

Another occured in a ground floor shop at Lokhandwala market in August. Four fire engines and water tankers doused the fire within minutes, but two people sustained injuries in the mishap. (Read more)

In March, a grade-2 fire broke out on the second floor of 8-storey 'Business Point' building on the Western Express Highway near suburban Andheri. (Read more)

In July last year, one fireman was killed, 20 injured in a major blaze that broke out Lotus Business Park on New Link Road in Andheri (West); it took authorities more than 9 hours to douse the flames. The 22-storey building had more than 25 offices of varying sizes, ranging from 2,500 square feet to 15,000 square feet. (Read more)
