Four villages from Maharashtra have been selected by the Central government to get smart card, sources said.

From Alibaug Taluka, a village namely Aawaz has been selected, the source said. Central Government has decided to issue smart card to the villagers mainly from coastal area of the country.

The tehslidar of Alibaug has conducted a meeting of villagers of Aawaz with the help of statistical department. They have started collecting information of every person from the village and after which the smart card willbe issued to that person, the source added.

The information includes house number, information of first person, thumb impression of the person and after consolidation of such information it will be sent to the chief statistical officer of the Government who keeps the record on population. This scheme is implemented by home department of Central government.
