Pilot in near-miss runway disaster, who said he could not hear Air Traffic Control instructions, will go for hearing test
Three weeks after an air disaster was averted at the Mumbai international airport, the pilot of one of the aircraft will be sent for a hearing test.
Two private jets, from Pinnacle Air and Challenger Business, took off almost simultaneously at Mumbai airport on the same runway 27. The pilots of both the jets said they had received instructions to go ahead from the ATC.

Following this, the regional air safety officer filed its investigation report with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which states that Capt Lynn from the Challenger Business jet was at fault, as he did not hear the instructions given by the ATC.
"The pilot needs to go for a ear checkup before he is allowed to fly," said an official from the DGCA.
A source from the DGCA said, "The pilot has already received a termination letter from the company and has been barred from flying in Indian air space." DGCA Director General Naseen Zaidi was unavailable for comment.
Said Dr Gauri Mankekar, ENT specialist from Hinduja Hospital, "The pilot usually undergoes a hearing test before joining the company and the DGCA conducts medical tests regularly.
If the volume of a headset is more than 60 per cent, the person may suffer hearing loss from chronic exposure."
