Unaffordable: Builders and visitors at the MCHI Budget Property 2009 exhibition, Kandivli, disagree over what constitutes reasonable realty rates |
If you are looking for affordable housing, MCHI Budget Property 2009, a three-day property exhibition at the Raghuleela Mall in Kandivli, is not your destination. Dilip Joshi (65), a Borivli resident visited the exhibition in the hope of buying a flat, but came away disappointed. "I was looking for a one-BHK flat between Rs 15 and 20 lakh either at Borivli or Dahisar. Sab budget ke bahar hai," said Joshi.
Added Rajeshwari Kuckian, an executive with a leading financial firm, "With the economic slowdown, I was expecting a fall in pric- es, but didn't find a single builder offering reasonable rates." Of the 30 stalls in the exhibition, only one builder offered a one room-kitchen flat for Rs 6 lakh in Virar.
According to real estate market analysts, there is hardly a drop in property prices. However, builders tend to disagree. "The prices have dipped and we are offering flats at affordable rates," said Sunil Bafna of Rishabh builders.
