Mumbai: 6-year-old girl dies while crossing tracks at Jogeshwari station

A 6-yr-old girl was killed on Tuesday evening when a train ran over her at Jogeshwari station. She was going to catch a train for Vile Parle along with her sister and mother when the incident happened


A 6-year-old girl was killed on Tuesday when a train ran over her at Jogeshwari Station.

Akila Vijaykumar Swami (6) was a resident of Subhash Nagar in Jogeshwari. She was going to catch a train for Vile Parle along with her sister and mother, from Jogeshwari Station at around 4 pm, when the incident happened.

They were heading there to see Akila's father, who works in Nanavati Hospital as a ward boy.

"Akila got separated from her mother and sister on the west side of the station, ahead of the Jogeshwari-Borivli bridge," said the Railway Police Head Constable from Andheri Railway Police

"She then got hit by a fast local while trying to cross the railway tracks on her own."

According to an Assistant Senior Inspector, Railway Police Control Room, the girl was instantly taken to Cooper Hospital after the accident.

"When I spoke to the hospital authorities at around 7 pm, Akila was declared dead," he said.
