A female elephant, which was brought to the Film City in Goregaon East, died there on Friday. The cause of death is not yet known.

Pawan Pande, the Dahisar-based owner of the cow (female elephant) said, "The elephant was brought to Film City for a puja and we had all the necessary permissions. Its health was fine, but suddenly on Friday afternoon, it sat down. We thought that it must be resting, but then we found it had died."

The elephant was around 35 years of age. Forest Department officials from the Territorial Range of Thane said, "The elephant belonged to a person from Dahisar and it was brought to Film City with another elephant. All the transport permissions were taken from the Forest Department."

It is being claimed that the elephant might have died a natural death, but the authorities are reconfirming the sequence of incidents. Sources said that it might have been ill.

There are chances that the elephant might have been the same which mid-day had reported about in ‘Elephant found begging at Dahisar; forest officials say they can't find it!' (August 1).
