The report of BMC that stated that 90% edible ice used in Mumbai is contaminated by E.coli bacteria, has surprised the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).

The FDA has sent 10 samples of edible ice to Pune's Institute of Virology. "After reading about the report by BMC in the media, we collected 9-10 samples and sent them for testing.

We are just waiting for the result," said Suresh Annapure, Jt Commissioner (food), FDA. "We haven't received the report from BMC. We will get our report by next week," Annapure added. A BMC officer said they had sent the report in the first week of June.
