Botale was a resident of Indira Nagar, Juhu Tara Road at Santacruz West and was attached to the Bandra police station with the motor transportation department. He had recently shifted to Kalyan. The Santacruz police said that financial matters seem to be the reason behind the killing.

Crime and punishment
A police source said, "On Friday night at around 11 pm, Botale reached room number 129 at the Tarapur area in Indira Nagar.

The room belongs to Javed, who is a scrap dealer at Kalyan. Botale was served a drink mixed with poison by Jadhav. He fell unconscious after drinking it and Jadhav strangled him with a rope. Later, she wrapped Botale's body in a bedsheet and set him on fire. Then she ran away from the scene of the crime."

On Friday morning, neighbours alerted the fire brigade and police officials when they noticed the fire. The police broke open the door of the room and found a badly-burnt dead body, which they took to Cooper Hospital where the doctors declared Botale dead.

The police found Botale's ID card and his batch number and later, traced the accused, who works in a bar. Jadhav has reportedly admitted to committing the crime.
