Mumbai crime: Handcuffed to chair, accused escapes with it

A 25-year-old accused, brought to Samta Nagar police station in Kandivli East for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 17-year-old girl, escaped within hours of being brought in on Friday morning. With him, he took along the plastic chair to which he was handcuffed.

According to senior police inspector Dilip Yadav, the accused had been brought to the police station for questioning. "He escaped before we could interrogate him."

A case has been registered against Siraj Ramzan Shaikh under the Indian Penal Code Section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension).

At 5 am, Shaikh escaped from the interrogation room when the cop on duty went out to call his colleague.

In September, Shaikh had allegedly kidnapped the victim, who was traced to a house in Vasai on Friday night and handed over to her parents.
