A national-level boxer and his accomplice were arrested for their involvement in several housebreaking cases in and around the city

The culprits were identified as Panchashri Swami (25), the boxer, and Rehan (23). One of their accomplices is still at large.

During interrogation, the duo confessed to committing over 50 daylight housebreakings in Navi Mumbai and the city. Crime Branch officials said they received a tip-off on January 1 that a gang would be striking at Chembur Collector Colony. They laid a trap and arrested Swami. Rehan was nabbed after Swami revealed his involvement.

Investigation revealed that the duo had been operating since several years and were history-sheeters. Officials recovered valuables, including a film camera, a refrigerator, a treadmill and a home theatre worth Rs 72.33 lakh and Rs 25 lakh cash. They also arrested two dealers who had purchased stolen goods from the duo.

Swami said he took to crime to better his financial condition. He was expert in breaking locks and had a few cases registered against him in Hyderabad. The gang would target buildings that lacked CCTV cameras and security guards. Further probe is on.u00a0
