The first witness, a police officer from Khar police station, who filed the FIR against Indrani Mukerjea, Sanjeev Khanna, and driver Shyamvar Rai, continued his deposition before the court in the Sheena Bora murder case yesterday.

Police officer Ganesh Dalvi had also deposed in the court on February 23 this year. Dalvi is the complainant in the arms case against driver Shyamvar Rai. Dalvi had told court at the time that on August 21, 2015, while he was patrolling at Carter Road with other officers in the evening, they caught a person who was running. The person was Rai. Dalvi had also stated that during investigation Rai said that he wanted to say something.

However defence lawyers had raised objection. Their contention was that a police officer stating what an accused told him during interrogation is not admissible before court, and so it should not be taken on record. Their objection was rejected by the court. They later received an order in their favour from the High Court.

On the crime trail
On Tuesday, Dalvi continued with his deposition and told court that after receiving permission from superiors, he and a few officers, panchas, and Rai travelled in a Tata Sumo along the crime trail. "According to Rai's directions, we proceeded to National College, Linking Road. There Rai directed us to take the vehicle to the left side. He said the victim was kidnapped at that spot," Dalvi told the court.

Dalvi further said that Rai then took them to Pen where he pointed to a spot and said that the victim's body was burnt there after pouring petrol on it. The Khar police enquired with Pen police about this. They then returned to Khar police station. From there the police, along with Rai and the panchas went to Rai's home at Vakola, and seized his licence, Aadhaar Card bearing a Worli address, and three photos, one of which was Sheena's.

Filed the FIR
The officer added that on August 24, 2015, he intimated his superiors about the investigation. From the information on Rai and the visit to the spots including Pen, he came to the conclusion that Indrani, Khanna and Rai had conspired to kidnap and kill Bora.

On the basis of his conclusion he filed an FIR on behalf of the state under kidnapping, murder and conspiracy charges.
