Mumbai law college appoints former Supreme Court judge Abhay Oka as Professor of Practice

SVKM's Pravin Gandhi College of Law, affiliated to Mumbai University, has announced the appointment of former Supreme Court judge Justice Abhay Oka as its Honorary Professor of Practice.

In a statement, the college said Justice Oka's association is aimed at integrating "judicial wisdom with academic scholarship" and strengthening its commitment to high-quality legal education

The college said Justice Oka's engagement would help bridge the gap between legal theory and practice, offering students experiential academic leadership and a deeper understanding of the law's real-world applications.

"Justice Oka's extensive judicial experience, his deep understanding of constitutional and procedural law, and his contributions to Indian jurisprudence will provide valuable inputs to curriculum design and teaching," the statement added.

Justice Oka served as a judge of the Supreme Court of India, and earlier as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, before retiring in May 2024.
