On Saturday, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested four people including a lawyer and his wife for kidnapping two minor girls in Navi Mumbai. The couple had allegedly given contract to the other two accused to abduct the girls. The police suspect that this might just be the tip of the iceberg and the duo is involved in a much larger human trafficking racket.

Commissioner of police Rakesh Maria said: "We have arrested Sanjay Bhoir, 51, a lawyer and his wife Ruby, 34, who used to work in a beer bar. The other two accused - Salman Khan, 21 and Kishor Thakur, 50 - were paid by the advocate to kidnap the minor girls."

He added, "The accused kidnapped both the girls in 2013 and kept them at a rented flat in Uran. Bhoir's wife had previously worked at beer bar and the couple had plans to sell the girls at one such bar for prostitution once they were a little older."

The Mumbai Police got a tip-off about the accused during a special drive while investigating about the missing kids. According to police officials on April 17, 2013, the two accused picked up a five-year-old girl near Inorbit Mall, Navi Mumbai. Another girl of the same age was kidnapped on November 7 the same year from Nerul's Sector 30. Bhoir had paid Khan and Thakur R80,000 for the first and Rs 1 lakh for the
second abduction.

According to the police, Bhoir, who practice at Panvel court, came in contact with Khan and Thakur at a builder's office in Navi Mumbai. Khan works at a mobile repairing shop while Thakur claims to be a real estate agent.

"Khan and Thakur clearly had their targets set and had kept a watch on the girls before luring them into the car with a ice cream. The girls were given clothes and properly fed all this time at a rented house in Uran," one of the officers revealed.

All the accused have been handed over to the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch for further investigations. The girls, who are both now seven-year-old, will undergo medical examination to determine whether they were sexually exploited.
