The state government on Wednesday extended the tenure of the Justice (retd) Sandeep Shinde committee on the Maratha quota till June 30, 2027. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Cabinet minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil.

The government set up the Shinde committee in September 2023 to formulate a standard operating procedure for scrutinising historical Kunbi records and issuing Kunbi caste certificates to eligible members of the Maratha community.

Jarange ends fast

Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange ended his latest hunger strike last week after the government agreed to provide certificates based on the 58 lakh Kunbi records.

Government will help

The cabinet sub-committee on Wednesday established dedicated Maratha reservation cells at district collector offices to assist people. A helpline number, 9326562815, was also launched to address certificate-related grievances. Patil further directed all departments to work in coordination to ensure that assurances given on the Maratha reservation issue are implemented and warned of action if officials are found negligent.
