Fadnavis inaugurates digital dashboard to streamline parliamentary proceedings in Maharashtra (Pic/Special arrangement)
In a major push towards the digital transformation of the Maharashtra Legislature, Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday inaugurated a state-of-the-art digital dashboard at Vidhan Bhavan. As per the official statement, the move will enable real-time tracking of pending parliamentary instruments and strengthen transparency, accountability and coordination between the government and the legislature.
Officials further asserted that the dashboard has been designed to replace the traditional paper-based monitoring system and will provide live updates on the status of various parliamentary instruments, including starred and unstarred questions, calling attention motions, half-hour discussions, special mentions, and points of propriety. Officials said the initiative would significantly improve the government's ability to respond to legislative business in a timely and efficient manner.
Speaking on the occasion, Legislature Secretary Jitendra Bhole highlighted the Legislature's digital transformation journey, stating that a resolution to make both Houses fully digital was adopted in July 2022.
Since then, advanced multimedia conference systems have been installed at every member's desk, enabling legislators to access the day's proceedings, official documents and online references digitally during House sessions.
Bhole also announced that efforts are underway to integrate the legislature's library resources into the digital ecosystem, allowing members to access reference material within the House through a single-click system.
As part of the digitisation drive, proceedings of the Maharashtra Legislature dating back to 1937 have been digitised, while audiovisual archives of House proceedings from 2013 onwards have also been created. The initiative is expected to make historical legislative records more accessible to lawmakers, researchers and government officials.
The legislature secretariat is also working on providing digital access to key documents, including gazettes, bills, budget publications, Governor's addresses, committee reports, reports of government corporations and universities, election-related decisions, government policies, member information and important court judgments.
Officials, while briefing about the ongoing digitalisation within the legislative assembly, said that the digital transformation received a major boost in December 2024 when the e-office system was first introduced in the office of the Legislative Assembly Speaker before being expanded across the entire legislature secretariat. Today, most administrative work within the secretariat is carried out through the e-office platform. The government also plans to integrate additional digital systems, including e-HRMS, Mahapar and e-RTI, in the near future.
The newly launched dashboard is expected to streamline the monitoring of pending parliamentary business by providing department-wise updates and real-time status reports. It will also support the committee process relating to the tabling of documents in the House.
With Chief Secretary-level officers and departmental secretaries able to monitor pending parliamentary instruments online, the system is expected to improve the speed of official responses while enhancing accountability across government departments.
The Maharashtra government, in a press note, said, "The initiative marks a significant milestone in modernising the functioning of the legislature and will make parliamentary proceedings more transparent, efficient and technology-driven."
