Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday directed government agencies to expedite the completion of major infrastructure projects, including the Mumbai Metro, twin tunnel projects, the Dharavi redevelopment project and other pending developments across the state, an official statement said.

He stated that such projects are essential for the state's economic growth and prosperity.

The meeting was held to review several major infrastructure projects across Maharashtra, including Metro Lines 2B, 2, 5, 6, 7A and 9 in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the Sewri-Worli Elevated Corridor, Pune Metro Line 3, Pune Ring Road, Mula and Mutha River Rejuvenation Project, Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, Bandra-Versova Sea Link, Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project, Dharavi Redevelopment Project and BDD Chawl Redevelopment schemes.

Speaking at the Infrastructure Chief Minister's War Room Meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, Fadnavis instructed officials to remove hurdles delaying projects and ensure contractors complete work within the prescribed timelines.

The Chief Minister said infrastructure projects should be completed within three to three-and-a-half years under all circumstances.

He directed authorities to consider a contractor's track record while awarding new projects and warned that contractors who repeatedly fail to meet deadlines should not be given additional government work.

According to the statement, CM Fadnavis stated that delays in infrastructure projects lead to financial losses for both the nation and the state and therefore cannot be accepted.

Focus on Dharavi redevelopment

Reviewing the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, the Chief Minister directed officials to provide State GST concessions to entrepreneurs operating in Dharavi.

He said the move would strengthen local businesses and help bring Dharavi's informal economy into the formal economic system.

Fadnavis also stated that matters already covered under the project's tender conditions should not be repeatedly placed before the Cabinet. Instead, implementing agencies should resolve issues through coordination with concerned departments.

Push for BDD chawl redevelopment

The Chief Minister reviewed the redevelopment of BDD Chawls at N.M. Joshi Marg, Worli and Naigaon.

He instructed authorities to provide rent assistance to eligible residents and quickly take possession of existing structures so that redevelopment work can begin without further delay.

Fast-tracking tunnel and sea link projects

Fadnavis directed officials to closely monitor progress on the Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project and set three-monthly targets for construction.

He also instructed agencies to complete the Goregaon-Mulund Twin Tunnel Project by January 2029, noting that it would significantly improve connectivity between Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs.

The Chief Minister further ordered the acceleration of work on the Bandra-Versova Sea Link project and called for the removal of all obstacles affecting its progress.

Land acquisition for Virar-Alibaug Corridor

Reviewing the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, Fadnavis instructed officials to speed up land acquisition.

He observed that land values along the corridor would rise significantly after completion and suggested that the government develop a strategy to utilise this increase in value.

He also proposed identifying special zones along the corridor and inviting investors to establish specialised industrial clusters.

Pune ring road and metro expansion

The Chief Minister directed authorities to expedite work on the Pune Ring Road and ensure that land is made available for the Mula and Mutha River Rejuvenation Project.

With Pune's metro network continuing to expand, he also recommended introducing an integrated ticketing system to improve passenger convenience.

Water supply concerns

Fadnavis instructed the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation and the Water Supply Department to work together to resolve pending issues related to water distribution.

He emphasised the need to ensure a reliable and adequate water supply for residents of the city.

Senior government officials, including Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and senior representatives from various departments and infrastructure agencies, attended the review meeting.
