The Maharashtra State Judicial Employees Federation (Group-C) staged a protest outside Killa Court on Friday, demanding "equal pay for equal work" for judicial employees of subordinate courts under the Bombay High Court, in line with the revised pay scales of High Court employees.

The protest comes amid a renewed push by judicial employees for a long-pending pay revision and other service-related benefits.

In a notice dated August 16, 2026, four recognised federations representing judicial employees across Maharashtra revived an earlier agitation notice issued in February 2024, citing the government's alleged failure to seriously consider their demands.

The notice was addressed to the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court through the Registrar General and the Maharashtra Chief Minister.

Pay revision pending since 2006

According to the notice, the federations have repeatedly raised their demands before the Bombay High Court and the Maharashtra government. These include a proposed pay revision pending since 2006, assured career-progression benefits and the implementation of recommendations made by various commissions.

The federations have also sought the extension of the old pension scheme to judicial officers and employees, along with solutions to difficulties faced by staff in their day-to-day official work.

The notice refers to a revised pay-scale proposal forwarded by the Bombay High Court to the state government through a letter dated January 31, 2025.

It also cites the Group-C federation's earlier agitation notice, dated February 12, 2024, and a resolution passed at its special general body meeting on August 16, 2026.

Four federations represent judicial staff

The four organisations are the Maharashtra State Judicial Employees Federation (Group-C), Maharashtra State Judicial Stenographers Association, Maharashtra State Judicial Peon (Bailiff) Employees Federation and Maharashtra State Judicial Group-D Employees Federation.

The federations said their members include judicial employees belonging to their respective cadres in subordinate courts across Maharashtra.

They have expressed regret over what they describe as the government's failure to act on their pay-revision proposal and other demands.

Besides pay parity with Bombay High Court employees, the federations are seeking improved career-progression benefits, pension-related measures and the implementation of recommendations made by various commissions.

The protest outside Killa Court marks a renewed expression of the employees' demands, with the federations warning of further agitation over the unresolved issues.
