The Election Commission of India (ECI) has further extended the deadline for submitting claims and objections to the draft electoral rolls in Maharashtra to October 26, 2026, giving citizens additional time to apply for inclusion, seek corrections or raise objections, news agency IANS reported.
However, the final electoral rolls will be published on November 16, 2026, as per the original schedule. The extension is part of the ongoing Special Summary Revision programme, based on the qualifying date of October 1, 2026.
The draft electoral rolls for the state were published on August 31, 2026. The period for submitting claims and objections, initially scheduled to run from August 31, has now been extended to October 26.
The issuance of notices and the resolution and disposal of submitted claims and objections will take place between August 31 and November 10, 2026, according to an official release. The final voter list will be published on November 16, 2026.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra has urged all eligible citizens, including first-time voters, to use the extended period to verify their details and complete the necessary registration formalities.
"Voters are encouraged to utilise this period to register new names in the electoral list, correct existing errors in personal records (such as spelling, address, or age) and raise necessary claims or objections regarding entries."
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra, has also issued an official notice detailing the measures being undertaken as part of the Special Summary Revision drive directed by the ECI.
The initiative aims to ensure that no eligible voter in the state is left out of the electoral list. Following the publication of the draft rolls across all Assembly constituencies on August 31, 2026, electoral authorities have been undertaking procedures to include new names, delete invalid entries and make necessary corrections.
To facilitate registration and verification, special four-day camps were conducted across 1,53,000 polling stations in Maharashtra on October 3, 4, 10 and 11, 2026.
A dedicated five-day special drive was also organised at colleges and universities across the state from October 5 to 9, 2026, to encourage young people and first-time voters to enrol.
Citizens with grievances or registration-related queries can contact designated electoral officials across the state. These include 1,53,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 7,100 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), 288 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 36 District Election Officers (DEOs).
The Chief Electoral Officer's office reiterated its commitment to maintaining error-free voter lists and ensuring that every eligible citizen retains their right to vote.
